WHAT IS INVISALIGN® ?
Invisalign® Treatment is the process of wearing a series of clear, removable aligners that gradually straighten your teeth without brackets and wires.
We capture a digital scan of your teeth using an iTero 3D Scanner. This 3D image is then used to create a Clincheck to design your smile. You get to see and approve the Clincheck before your Invisalign® is ordered.
Invisalign® is made of a flexible medical-grade thermoplastic called SmartTrack, to ensure a perfect fit. The number of aligners required will determine treatment times. We will will help you choose which Invisalign® package is suitable for you on your first consultation.
How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign® works to align teeth by applying a controlled pushing force to different parts of the teeth on each Invisalign® aligner. Each aligner will have different pushing forces inbuilt into it on different teeth, optimised with carefully prescribed attachments. After the teeth have moved, the aligner becomes passive, holding the teeth in place until the next aligner.
Each new aligner moves the teeth further. This process is repeated until all aligners in the series are used. To see optimum results, you must wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day.
You can remove your clear aligners to brush your teeth, eat, or drink.
Treatable Cases
Crowded teeth
Dental crowding occurs when all your teeth do not have enough space to line up within your jaw. The teeth can bunch up, overlap, and twist, getting pushed out of the line of the arch. It is harder to brush crowded teeth, resulting in plaque and tartar build-up. It can lead to tooth decay and gum disease.

Overbite
Overjet or overbite is a condition in which upper front teeth are positioned in front of the lower front teeth. Most of us have a slight overbite, 2-4mm overbite is normal. Anything more than that can make the upper teeth look prominent and can be more prone to trauma.

Gaps / Spaces
Gap teeth or diastema refers to the space between teeth. These spaces can form anywhere in the mouth, but the most noticeable one is between the two upper front teeth. While some gaps are small and barely noticeable, other gaps are large, causing a cosmetic concern for some people. Some gaps can increase in size over the years, this drifting may also be related to gum disease.

Open Bite
This is a malocclusion characterised by a vertical gap between the front upper teeth and lower teeth when you bite down. When front teeth from the upper and lower jaws do not touch when the mouth is closed, it can make it hard to chew or difficult to bite into some common foods. This can also be linked to childhood dummy or thumb sucking.

Underbite
Also known clinically as a Class III malocclusion, an underbite is when your lower teeth are positioned in front of your upper teeth. In many cases, this is actually a problem with the lower jaw being too far forward and orthodontic alignment can only camouflage this malocclusion. A underbite can make it harder to chew properly and may be a cause of accelerated tooth wear.

Crossbites
A crossbite is when you close your mouth, some of the upper teeth fit inside of lower teeth rather than the outside. It can involve a single tooth or groups of teeth at the front, back, or side areas. It can make your teeth wear down or chip and lead to localised gum recession and bone loss.

The next steps to your new smile
1. Your first visit
At your first appointment, we do a smile assessment and will provide a custom treatment plan for you. We scan your teeth painlessly with the iTero 3D scanner and a simulation can be seen instantly. ClinCheck software is utilised to plan your case when you decide to proceed and from here the treatment length time, attachments and case specifics can be determined.
2. Your customised braces are made
Once your Clincheck has been approved, your aligners can be ordered. From manufacture, shipping and to fit is around 2 weeks.
3. Receiving your Invisalign
On your fit visit, you will be provided with your first set of aligners. Attachments may be bonded with the dentist, orthodontist or orthodontic therapist. Some may receive additional sets for wearing before returning for the next visit.
4. Wearing clear aligners the correct way
You must wear each aligner for the recommended time for each stage, 20-22 hours a day, only removing them for brushing, flossing, eating, and drinking. They can stay in with drinking water. On each of your visits, we examine how well your teeth are responding to the treatment by checking the fit. Review appointments are around 4-10 weeks, depending on your case and stage of treatment.
5. Completing the treatment
The treatment comes to an end when you have worn every aligner in the series recommended for you and both yourself and the clinician is happy with the result. If there are minor imperfections, refinement may be required. Attachments will be removed and retainers are prescribed to hold your perfect smile in place!
6. Aftercare for your Invisalign method
While wearing a retainer every night is an essential part of aftercare, you need to ensure your beautiful smile is preserved by looking after your oral health
Keeping teeth clean – Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. Don’t forget to use floss and interdental brushes in the evening. Remember to clean and soak your retainers in a cleaning solution such as Retainer Brite or Invisalign cleaning crystals. We recommend an ultrasonic bath device to keep your retainers clean.
Routine check ups and hygiene – Regular dental check ups and hygiene appointments are a must for optimal oral health. Professional cleaning can remove hardened plaque (tartar) that normal brushing cannot remove. A fixed retainer is also more prone to tartar build up. Routine checkups will ensure your teeth, gums and fixed retainers are in excellent condition.
A balanced diet for oral health – A balanced and healthy diet contains the necessary vitamins and minerals your teeth, gums and bone need. Too much sugar or acid can cause cavities in your teeth.
Wear a mouthguard when playing sport – Certain outdoor activities and contact sport carry the risk of dental trauma. A mouthguard will protect your teeth. Enquire within for a custom made sports guard to protect your new smile.

Frequently asked questions
Should I get an Invisalign treatment done?
Yes! It is safe, effective, non-invasive, and discreet. If you have an orthodontic malocclusion and want a barely noticeable solution, you should consider Invisalign.
Will my speech get affected by Invisalign?
Only in the short term. Invisalign aligners are made from thin, flexible plastic and will have little to no effect on your speech once you are used to it. It takes around 2 weeks.
If I lose an aligner, how can I replace it?
Call or email our team right away, and they will advise you on your next step. It is possible to order a replacement from Invisalign at an additional charge. If you were new to the aligner you lost, please revert to the one you wore right before the ones you lost and let your Invisalign provider know. If you were almost at the end of the treatment time for the lost aligner, move to the next set of aligners if you have them.
What are Invisalign attachments?
They are little, tooth-colored, barely noticeable bumps made of composite filling material attached to your teeth before or during Invisalign treatment. They serve as an anchor, helping aligners grip the teeth to guide them to their new location. The aligners fit smoothly and tightly around them. Attachment design and location is unique to every case.
Will it be necessary to wear retainers after the Invisalign treatment?
Retainers ensure that teeth do not gradually shift back toward their initial position. After completing orthodontic treatment, whether it is with braces or Invisalign, retainers ensure the alignment lasts. Ask your doctor about the different types of retainers you can use
Where can I find more information about Invisalign?
Our free no-obligation consultation allows you to discuss the treatment in detail and help you decide which option is best for you.
How long will the Invisalign treatment take before I see results?
Some patients start seeing results in around 4-6 weeks; others might have to wait 3-6 months to see visible results.
What should I avoid while undergoing treatment?
- Eating while wearing your aligners is not recommended.
- Do not wear aligners without cleaning teeth or the aligners, especially after eating.
- Do not leave the aligners out for more than 2-4 hours in a row to prevent relapse.
- Try to minimize very hard foods to prevent damage to your teeth.
Can I get Invisalign treatment on NHS?
Orthodontic treatment is not usually available to adults at the NHS without a severe skeletal problem. You will not be offered Invisalign.
What is the shortest Invisalign treatment option?
Invisalign Express, which only lasts 3-6 months, is the shortest. It is designed for minor cases and usually involves only 7 aligners.
Can the Invisalign treatment be done only for my top teeth?
Yes, single-arch Invisalign treatment is possible after a careful examination to determine that it will not disrupt your bite. In most cases, both arches need to be treated for all teeth to align properly for a stable bite.
